The Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
On June 25, The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) announced the upcoming $55 million transformation of the iconic mid-century modern State Museum building and the tower that formerly housed the State Archives.
Starting January 2026, preparations will begin with the closing of the third floor and the Planetarium. Visitors will continue to enjoy our other galleries along with a new exhibit commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Museum is expected to be closed from August of 2026 until early 2029.
Starting in August 2025, our membership will transition to a 6-month duration at a reduced rate. As we approach 2026 and the construction schedule solidifies, these 6-month memberships will be phased out and replaced by discounted supporter memberships which will remain active through the Museum’s closure.
