Leroy Hopkins, Sr. was a lifelong resident of Lancaster and an African American who served with the U.S. Army’s 1333rd Engineer General Service Regiment in both the European and Pacific theaters of World War II – at a time when the U.S. Army still segregated its soldiers by race.
