Important information you should know.

The Fine Print

The following items are strictly prohibited in the Museum:

  • Liquids, including water
  • Food or beverage of any kind, including fruit and unopened packaged food
  • Aerosol containers
  • Non-aerosol spray
  • Any pointed object, e.g. knitting needles and letter openers (Pens and pencils are permitted.)
  • Electric stun guns, martial arts weapons, or devices
  • Guns, replica guns, ammunition, and fireworks
  • Knives of any size
  • Mace and pepper spray
  • Razors and box cutters

Large Bags & Backpacks: Any bag larger than 12″wide x 12″ high x 4″deep are NOT allowed in the Museum, unless required for medical purposes. These bags will need to be stored in the Museum coatroom. The State Museum reserves the right to inspect any items entering the premises and are not responsible for any valuables or lost items.

Accessibility: The State Museum is handicapped-accessible. Individuals with disabilities or those in need of special assistance are asked to call (717) 787-4980 or the Pennsylvania TDD relay service at (800) 654-5984 in advance of their visit.

Food: A snack bar with vending machines is available on the ground floor. Food and beverages are not permitted in any of the museum galleries. The Museum does not offer cafeteria space for large groups.

Coats: The State Museum provides a coat room and lockers on the ground floor. The State Museum is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

Wi-Fi: Visitors are welcome to access our free wifi. The network name is “Capitol Complex Free WiFi”.

Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in all areas of The State Museum.
