The State Museum of Pennsylvania presents its annual Noon Year’s Celebration. Join museum staff, volunteers along with junior revelers and their families from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, December 28 for an exciting opportunity to “ring in” the New Year. Visitors will have an opportunity to make a noisemaker crafts, play a game, have a snack, have a special balloon made by Trist‘n Shout balloon artists, and enjoy other educational and entertaining happenings.
Experience science with Eric Energy who will be presenting “Science Spectacular” at 11:00 AM. Learn all about air and matter, and experience vortex fog rings, bubbling potions and clouds on the ground. At 12:15 PM join Eric Energy for “Spark Attack” to learn about circuits, sound waves and different kinds of light. See things like indoor lightning, a voice changer and a real laser light show.
The highlight of this family-friendly event is the countdown and dropping of the Museum’s famous Firefly Celebration at 12:00 PM noon in Memorial Hall.
Curiosity Connection will be open during the event for our visitors under age 5 for activities and play, however, space is limited. Free timed tickets are required for 45 minutes of play. Tickets are available at the Ground Floor Information Desk upon arrival. Curiosity Connection will open at 9:15 AM and close at 2:00 PM.
The event is included with general admission to the museum. Although no reservation is required, Planetarium tickets and Curiosity Connection Playtime tickets are extremely limited and may be unavailable late in the day.
The Planetarium will be offering Animals of the Night at 10:15 AM, 10:45 AM, 11:15 AM, and 12:30 PM. Designed for children, this traditionally-styled show helps viewers use their imaginations to see pictures in the sky, learn about constellations, understand basic movements of the Earth, and discover animals that can be found both in Pennsylvania and in its night sky. Planetarium shows are an additional $3 per person. Space is limited and tickets are required for the planetarium show.
General Admission is $7 for adults (ages 12-64), $6 for senior citizens (ages 65 and up), and $5 for children (ages 1-11).
