Homeschool Program: Urban Ecosystems

Wednesday, April 3 10am-12pm

Registration for this program is closed.

Pennsylvania’s vast forests are not the only home for its plants and animals. A wide variety of wildlife call the city home. Learn how the plants and animals of the Commonwealth have adapted to survive in an urban environment among the buildings, parking lots, paved streets and planned parks. Prepare for an outdoor adventure as we hike through the urban forest of Harrisburg to learn more about its wild inhabitants, meet live raptors courtesy of Hawk Mountain, and discover how you can help your wild neighbors survive.

Museum curators and educators from The State Museum will lead seven programs designed specifically for Homeschool families. Families will experience a guided gallery tour and discussion about the day’s topic, then participate in a hands-on family activity. These programs will give homeschooled students and their families an opportunity to engage with museum staff, ask questions, and work together. After the program, families may continue exploring the museum and enjoy Q & A with staff. Each program begins at 10:00AM and is expected to last 2 hours. Programs will be open for a limited number of participants. Registration and pre-payment is required.

$5 per participant for State Museum Affiliate Members per program $10 per participant for non-Members per program

At least one adult is required to register with each family. All program participants must pay a fee regardless of age. Fees are non-refundable.
